El Paso is a town rich with a variety of cultures and deeply rooted with history of theAmerican west. It was during the late 1880s and 1890s, El Paso acquired a reputation as a lawless and violent "Wild West" town. The most notorious local figure was John Wesley Hardin. El Paso was the site of the infamous "Four Dead in Five Seconds Gunfight" on April 14, 1881 that involved a new City Marshal Dallas Stoudenmire who began his tenure just four days before. Stoudenmire was out to lunch when this gunfight erupted. He jumped onto the street and commenced firing his twin .44 Colts until his last bullet ended it. Stoudenmire has instilled fear into this town and intimidated the outlaws to flee.
Today El Paso is not only a gateway to Mexico but a vibrant and active tourist location itself. Its known as the City of the Sun not only for the fact that the Sun rarely ever doesn't shine but because of the life that radiates from within the city.
